The Bell of Alameda
…is a one-act play that takes place in 1903 in the Alameda area of Albuquerque, NM, around an event that really happened: the flood that carried away homes and a church. Brian Nixon’s idea for the play was inspired by a statue in an Albuquerque park called “The Bell Keepers,” which depicts two men carrying a church bell to safety from the flood. Using a fictional love story, Brian wrote the story and then asked Rosslyn Elliot, a playwright, to create a play to dramatize the story he had written. Roslyn did more research and came up with some interesting newspaper clippings, which she used to embellish and add characters such as the mayor. As the stage production got under way, Dennis Cole wrote some script revisions and added the character he plays, Abuelo (grandfather).  And so, together, what we have is…
